📣 The Protocol Labs EngRes Working Group is bridging the public channels it uses in this server to [IPFS Matrix] and [Filecoin Slack]. Most PL EngRes team members will be residing in Filecoin Slack. The [IPFS Discord] channels aren’t going anywhere, but there will be some adjustments including disabling Discord threads in this channel due to lack of bridging support. This will be completed as early as 2022-06-15 and by 2022-06-17. Read more in the [notice].

What are we planning to do?

As shared back in February, the Protocol Labs EngRes WG (see link below) has been on the journey of communicating more in public venues. We’re not retracting on this, but we are making some changes on how we do this. Specifically, to help with team member productivity, we’re “homing” all our communication in Filecoin Slack (which is public) and bridging IPFS, libp2p, and IPLD communication out to IPFS Matrix and IPFS Discord.

What this means:

  1. Public IPFS Discord channels are not going anywhere. They will continue to exist and be a way to engage with other community members or implementers (in addition to discusion forums like discuss.ipfs.io and GitHub).
  2. Public IPFS Discord channels will have a corresponding IPFS Matrix room and Filecoin Slack channel. Please show up to whatever venue works best for you.
  3. IPFS Discord channels that are being bridged to Matrix and Slack will have Discord threads turned off. This is because Discord threads don’t bridge to Matrix and thus to Slack (at least as of 2022-06-10 per here). Slack and Discord threads do propagate as messages to Discord so there is no information loss from that side.
  4. PL EngRes team members will likely be “offline” in IPFS Discord as they consolidate to using Filecoin Slack. IPFS Discord doesn’t show who is on the other side of the bridge. As a result, from IPFS Discord you won’t be able to know who else in the channel and you’ll only be able to @mention one’s Filecoin Slack identity from Matrix or Slack.
  5. Channels/rooms across IPFS Discord, IPFS Matrix, and Filecoin slack will be made consistent.
