FAQ

What are SitReps?

The Situation Report (SITREP) is a form of status reporting that provides decision-makers and readers a quick understanding of the current situation. It aims to give a clear, concise understanding of the situation—focusing on meaning or context, in addition to the facts. It does not assume the reader can infer what is important or not, and what actions or decisions are needed. It calls out what is needed. Make sure to include:

  1. The situation to date - a brief summary of what has happened
  2. Actions to date - report what has been done
  3. Actions to be completed - report what will be done
  4. Issue(s) - report any issues or blockers

When are they created?

SitReps are created weekly, usually ahead of major stakeholder review meetings.

The EngRes team has chosen Mondays as the “update day” on which our weekly SitReps are up-to-date and used as input to biweekly leadership check-ins.

Who is the target audience?

The target audience of a SitRep is a lead or interested stakeholder on an adjacent team or project, who wants to know the status, blockers, and major next steps for the team’s work and progress.

EngRes SitReps are also made public so that other teams in the PL Network can benefit and see the ongoing progress updates.
